There are two licences available to the private pilot.
Number one, is a European one called a JAR, which has a minimum of 45 hours flight training, and a medical with a approved doctor Number two is a U.K. NPPL, which has a minimum of 32 hours training, and a simple medical with your own GP.
Don’t worry about which one to choose, we can discuss which would suit your requirements and sort it - no problem! The interesting point is that you must have a pilots licence to fly a plane, just as you must have a drivers licence to drive a car. Similarly, you do the training, take the test and get a licence.
However the difference with a pilots licence is that it also lists the types you are allowed to fly with the licence. There are 3 main types:-
- TMG/SLMG. - a touring motor glider, such as the Slingsby T61F.
- SEP - Which is a single engine propeller aircraft, like a Cessna etc.
- Twin - a twin-engine aircraft.
So, you can learn to fly and get a licence flying any type, and once you have a licence, just add another type by doing a short course - as little as 5hrs.
- TMG/SLMG: £70ph
- SEP: £125ph
- Twin: £250ph
It won’t need Einstein to work out that you make a Fantastic saving by doing all your training on a TMG aircraft, getting a licence, and then converting to the SEP.
The Motor Glider Club at Hinton is one of the very few professional TMG/SLMG training schools in the UK. It’s a quiet airfield, friendly club, and all training is with myself – CAA Instructor & Examiner.
Getting a licence could be more achievable than you thought; you only have to pay for lessons as you have them, no big payments up front. Any questions please do phone or call in any time at the airfield.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
